Annual Burns Supper
January 2007
Each year the EUCUA hosts a 180-guest, black-tie, Burns Supper. Traditionally the event is held in the "magnificence of the Playfair Library, flanked by chalky nineteenth-century portrait busts of lords and distinguished professors" - The Herald.
Speakers at this event have included the former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Lamont of Lerwick PC, Liam Fox MP, the former Secretary of State for Scotland Lord Forsyth of Drumlean, and Chairman of the Scottish Conservatives Peter Duncan MP. As the Herald reported, we have "a distinguished line-up" of speakers.
In 2006 the Edinburgh University Hot Air Balloon Club held a Burns Supper in the Playfair Library (with many EUCUA members in attendance). The EUCUA held instead a dinner in celebration of the 299th Anniversary of the 1707 Act of Union in Edinburgh's New Club, with Sir Malcolm Rifkind KCMG as guest speaker.
