If a Tory Prime Minister introduced university fees, it would be class war. If a Tory Prime Minister forced every citizen to carry a state ID card or banned a sport, it would be fascism. If a Tory Prime Ministed savaged centuries-old judicial rights to lock up Asians without charge, it would be racism. Rather surprisingly for our critics, it wasn't a Tory Prime Minister who did these things. It might be surprising, because most students don't know what we're about, and instead rely on stereotypes. So I will loosen my tweed jacket, stop thinking up ways to grind the faces of the poor to dust, and put my inbred brain to explaining what Conservatism is...
